Our Story: How Change Begins With Us

The California Tenants Association – Skid Row Division was born out of necessity, resilience, and a deep belief that housing is a human right. In a community too often overlooked and underserved, tenants came together not just to survive, but to organize, rise, and reclaim power.

Our story is rooted in lived experience — in the voices of residents who have endured unsafe conditions, been ignored by management, and faced unjust treatment. But out of hardship came strength. We formed an association not just to demand better housing, but to inspire systemic change that honors the dignity of every human being.

What we’ve built isn’t just a union — it’s a movement. One where residents become leaders. One where accountability is no longer optional. And one where communities realize they deserve more than neglect — they deserve respect, fairness, and a future.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but when people come together with courage and purpose, it becomes unstoppable. Our journey proves that organizing can transform not only buildings, but lives.

About Our Association Board Members

The board members of the California Tenants Association – Skid Row Division bring decades of lived experience, grassroots organizing, and community leadership to the forefront of tenant advocacy. Many have personally experienced the challenges of unstable housing, giving them a deep understanding of the struggles faced by residents in our community.

Our board is composed of longtime tenants, community advocates, and union organizers who are committed to housing justice, government accountability, and tenant empowerment. They stand for dignity, transparency, and the right of every person to live in safe, healthy, and affordable housing. Together, they work to defend tenant rights, challenge unfair practices, and build a stronger, more united community from the ground up.
